I used my aeronautic engineering studies to concentrate on flapping flight. Some of my accomplishments have been incorporated into the toy to improve its flight. Numerous high performance prototypes, but a bit too expensive to produce, remained in the closet in order to prepare for the future.

During this entire period, I dreamed of being able to replace the rubber-band bird with an electric motor and a Lithium Polymer Battery to make a radio-controllable model. But the challenge was to maintain the same weight, which was completely impossible with the technology of the time.

Until the arrival of newest lithium polymer batteries, and coreless motors created for vibrators, provided new opportunities! After a few theoretical calculations, I discovered that the dream had become attainable. However, the weight stumbling block remained: how to make a sufficiently compact and lightweight gear for coupling the motor to the wings’ flapping system.

I finally managed, one evening of great inspiration, one of those evenings that you are never sure to be able to recreate, one of those evenings that you would be quite incapable of retracing. From then on, I have designed a Lithium Polymer Battery for each flying bird, which has greatly reduced the weight of each component. The first CAD model (100% virtual) was born.

Fit for an adventure

The complete package for the ultimate experience in the middle of nature with complete autonomy. The Bird sits atop a revolutionary egg-shaped charger that displays lights. After charging for 12 minutes, the bird is fully operational and will fly for up to 8 minutes before needing to be recharged. The egg includes a big lithium polymer battery and also serves as a portable power pack for longer-lasting play outdoors, as it can recharge the bird up to 10 times.

Charge

Depending on the model, the charging device is different. However, we install the lithium polymer battery, you no need to charge it, the battery life is very long.

The Bird “Premium” version charges on its egg: switched it on, (press the button under its base), when the egg stops flashing, the bird is charged. The Bird “Deluxe” charges with its usb adapter: the bird is charged when the LED changes from red to blue.

Connect

Once the app starts, after reading the tutorial, the « find the bird » screen appears. As you switch on your bird, the name of your Bird (configurable) appears on the screen; you just need to click on it to be connected and move to the flying controls.

Fly

There are two important recommendations to follow in order to manage your first flights:

How to hold your smartphone: don’t hold it with the whole hand but position your phone flat on your four fingers, your thumb touching the screen to control the throttle.

The second is to let the bird gain altitude comfortably after you launched it, for a few seconds, holding your smartphone flat, before starting to pilot.

Customize

Wings and tails are easy to replace when broken or simply to customize your Bionic Bird.

The process is the same for all models. It is important to never pull the wing or the tail by the ends, but always closer to the base, which is robust.
